MTI Blockman Animation Rig
After creating several character rigs, and repurposing rig parts several times, I felt the need to make a more cohesive, fully functional and simple to animate character rig.
That’s where my blockman rig came in.
A block comes to life
My previous uber-flexible rig was Stickman, and while it was a very good rig, it was also a bit unique.
It had some features most characters wouldn’t have or need, and it lacked features that most characters DO need.
Like hand, fingers…. and feet.

As flexible as you can get
Just like stickman, it needed to be:
- Super easy to pose
- Super easy to animate
- Super fun to use
- Super flexible and cartoony
So with that out of the way I started on the technical side of the rig.
Dem bones
What features does the rig need to achieve the functionality that I’m after?
- Forward Kinematics (FK) on all limbs
- Inverse Kinematics (IK) on all limbs
- Stretchy limbs and spine toggle.
- Hinge on/off functions on all joints.
- Sliders for the amount of bendyness of the limbs and spine.
- Full hand rig with simple finger controls.
- Full foot rig with foot roll control.
- Simple controls, with hidden additional controls for extra posability.
And then I ran out of writing space for the case study…
TLDR: I built it, and it was awesome.
